Though I am anonymous here, I am not worried that I will lose my anonymity by saying that I was friendly with Elka Klein, a fantastic person who died last week at the age of 39, because she had so many friends. She left two young children and a loving husband. She had her second academic book in press. I was not in touch with her during this illness. We had many lovely shabbat meals together when we lived in the same neighborhood. She laughed at all my jokes and was generous in many other ways too, like sharing her research. The kind of person who systematically gave charity when she was in graduate school. The kind of person who cried each year at Simhat Torah when we got to the death of Moses. I wish I had kept in touch with her, you always think you will get to see the good ones again and it's not always true.
